remove.bg migration: what changes, and what to check before switching

An independent guide to the announced website, account and API changes, with official sources and a migration checklist.

This is an independent guide from remove.ac. It is not an official remove.bg notice, and it does not present remove.ac as an official successor, migration partner or endorsed provider.

remove.bg says its standalone website and accounts will become unavailable on December 1, 2026 at 09:00 CET. That is 08:00 UTC or 16:00 in Beijing. Its self-service API stops accepting requests from December 1; Enterprise API contracts continue. The API FAQ gives a date without specifying a time of day. remove.bg official FAQ

Start with the service you actually use

For people using the website, remove.bg directs background removal users to Canva. For self-service API users, it points to Leonardo.Ai. These are different paths; choosing a website replacement does not settle your API integration. remove.bg official FAQ

Check your balance and subscription separately. The FAQ says unused pay-as-you-go credits expire on December 1. Annual subscriptions receive an automatic proportional refund for unused time after the cutoff. Monthly subscriptions end automatically, with a final renewal on or after November 1 provided free. Before remove.bg account access ends, export your credit usage report and invoices from remove.bg. remove.bg official FAQ

An API migration needs more than a new destination

The Sync API path described in Leonardo's official migration guide requires a new API key and endpoint. Authentication changes to a Bearer token; requests and responses use JSON. Its documented output options do not include every remove.bg format. Read the mapping for the requests your application actually makes. These are Leonardo's requirements, not a claim about remove.ac compatibility. Leonardo official Sync migration guide

  1. List the inputs, parameters, output formats and batch sizes you use.
  2. Keep a representative set of images, including difficult edges and failed cases.
  3. Compare actual downloaded results, error handling, rate limits and charges.
  4. Change a small workflow first, with a fallback that will still be available when you need it.

Treat this as a preparation checklist, not a promise that any replacement will match your existing results.

Where remove.ac stands

remove.ac remains a local preview awaiting production acceptance. Local workflows and selected pages have been checked in specific versions; these checks do not establish every processing or data path. Public API, production authentication and payments have not been opened. Local test-account screens are separate from production authentication. CLI availability, API compatibility, pricing advantages and comprehensive no-upload behavior remain unverified.

For an existing plan or contract, use the provider's official policy and support channels.

For an existing product reference, see Koutuxia’s English-language site. Koutuxia continues to serve Chinese-language users; remove.ac is the planned overseas product. This link leads to Koutuxia, not to an available remove.ac service or a compatible API endpoint. Koutuxia’s English-language site

Next step

Identify your website, account or API workflow, then review its current official documentation before making a production change.
